Welcome and thank you for considering the DRD Swim Team!
Our club is comprised of swimmers ages 5 to 18 years old.  Children interested in joining the team must be able to complete a 25-yard swim (one complete length of the pool) without stopping and have an interest in being on a competitive team. All swimmers need to perform a trial swim for the coaches to be placed into one of the four training groups.

DRD SWIM TEAM TRAINING GROUPS:
The Swim Team is divided into four training groups:

Novice - Coach Ted Davis / Coach Chelsey Snyder
This group is for the swimmer who wants to begin the development of competitive swimming skills.  The emphasis is on introducing the fundamental skills, movements and terminology of the four competitive strokes. Beyond the stroke skills, the novice group also covers introductory steps towards performing proper starts and turns, skills that become essential as a swimmer's career evolves. Novice practices are offered five times a week for one hour.  It is recommended swimmers participate in practice no less than three times per week. We currently have two levels of Novice -- Novice Blue and Novice Gold. Novice Blue is for swimmers who have not yet "mastered" the freestyle and the backstroke. Novice Gold is for swimmers who are able to perform the freestyle and the backstroke according to USA Swimming standards, but have not yet "mastered" the breaststroke and the butterfly.

Intermediate - Coach Julie Earle
This group is for the swimmer that has shown the ability to exceed past the fundamental stage of competitive swimming.  In order to participate in this group, the swimmer must have the ability to perform all competitive strokes according to USA Swimming standards.  While this group will continue to work on improving skills and movements, different types of competitive training are introduced and enhanced.  Intermediate practices are offered five times a week for 90 minutes.  It is recommended swimmers participate in practice no less than three times per week.

Junior
- Coach Ted Davis/Chelsey Snyder
This group is for the swimmer that has shown continuous physical and mental development as a competitive swimmer. In order to participate in this group, the swimmer must have the willingness to train at a progressive level based on their own ability, in addition to the ability to swim all four strokes legally.  The Junior group develops swimming and mental skills with various challenges that are meant to prepare the swimmer not only for competition, but also to frame them for the progression that takes place in the Senior group. Junior practices are offered five times a week for 1 hour 45 minutes.  It is recommended swimmers participate in practice no less than four times a week.

Senior - Coach Tim Skowronski
This group is for the swimmer that has shown the ability to compete, train and comprehend competitive swimming at an advanced level.  In order to participate in this group, the swimmer must have the willingness to train on land with stretches and exercises as well as in the pool. The Senior group refines all aspects of swimming so the swimmer has the knowledge and ability to understand the purpose of training in several ways as well as how to breakdown a race.  Senior practices are offered five times a week for 3 hours.  It is recommended swimmers participate in practice no less than four times a week.

DRD Registration Fee
A one-time fee of $25.00 is required for each new swimmer joining the club.

USA Swimming Registration Application
All swimmers must register with United States Swimming.  This non-refundable registration fee of $51.00 is obtained annually at the fall or winter registration.  USA swimming registration covers team insurance and other costs at both the local and national levels.  A seasonal membership fee is also available for purchase April 1st and expires August 31st of each year.  NOTE:  Swimmers need a yearly membership in order to swim at state meets.

DRD Swim Meet Concessions Fee
Concession fees are used to help buy food, drinks and other supplies that will be sold for profit at our team’s hosted swim meets. Payment of Concession fees*is made during the registration for the fall and summer session, when the meets are scheduled. The $35.00 concession fee covers both of our swim meets.

*If your swimmer swims for any one session during the year (fall through Summer), you are required to fulfill your meet work requirements and to pay the concession fee. See Meet Volunteer Requirement below

City of Dearborn Pool Tag
During the summer training session, swimmers are required by the City of Dearborn to purchase and display a City of Dearborn Pool Tag.  These tags are offered through DRD at the normal City of Dearborn residence fee, regardless of where the swimmer lives. This tag purchase allows DRD swimmers to use the City of Dearborn facility at Levagood Park during the afternoon for practice.

MEET VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT
DRD is a parent run organization that relies on parent involvement for all organizational aspects of the team.  The DRD Swim Team hosts two annual USS swim meets per year: one in October and one in June.  In joining the DRD swim team, it is required that all swimmers' families work these swim meets. These meets contribute to almost half of our annual working budget. Our summer meet is the club’s biggest revenue maker, which helps the team maintain lower training fees. It is also necessary for the parents to occasionally work one or more of our hosted Down-river League meets that DRD offers at no cost to the swimmers

*Meet Volunteer Requirement Policy – 2007/2008 Season
A person from each family will be required to work a minimum of 3 sessions at the summer meet in June, and 2 sessions at the fall meet in October.   If a family is not available to work a meet, it is their responsibility to find another team parent to work for them.  After each meet any family who was not represented will be sent a statement of $40.00 for each work session missed, which will be due within 2 weeks after each meet.  If the fine remains unpaid after 2 weeks, the swimmer will not be allowed in the water until the money is received.
