 PUPS/LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

Pups On-Line Registration can be found under the PUPS Swim Lessons Tab 

 DRD's PUPs program in defined sessions with two 45 minutes classes each week unless noted otherwise due to scheduled holidays or limited pool access.  

Classes are offered as follows:

  • Pups Beginner M/W 6:00 - 6:45 PM or T/Th 6:00-6:45 PM
  • Pups Advanced M/W 6:00 - 6:45 PM or  T/Th - 6:00 - 6:45 PM

 Each class will not exceed 8 PUP's. They are instructed by certified red cross swimming instructors.  Classes are broken down into two ability levels but may be combined at the Pups Liaison or DRD's Head Coach discretion.   At the conclusion of each session, PUPS are water tested for advancement to the next level of PUPS or onto the swim team as a Novice swimmer.

PUPS BEGINNER Minimum Skills

  • Paddle 15 feet unassisted. 
  • Learn to paddle 10 feet on back.
  • Float without a safety belt; back and front for 20 seconds.
  • Improve overall confidence in water.

PUPS BEGINNER Goals   

  • Swim freestyle and backstroke 25 yards.
  • Rhythmic breathing
  • Front and back front minute.
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.

 

 

PUPS ADVANCED Minimum Skills

  • Swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke.
  • Swim 25 yards breaststroke
  • Rhythmic breathing, front and back float for 3 minutes.
  • Tread water for 1 minute.
  • Improve confidence in the deep water.
  • Dive from the side of the pool.

PUPS ADVANCED Goals

  • Swim 50 yards of freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke.
  • Swim butterfly 25 yards.
  • Rhythmic breathing.
  • Front and back float for 6 minutes.
  • Tread water for 3 minute.
  • Improve confidence in the deep water.
